Senior Work and Income Opportunities

This website is for the purpose to help seniors who find themselves without a job. Having been laid off or fired from work in your 50s or 60s is a nightmare to ever find meaningful employment again. Many not having any money saved or not enough saved from their 401K savings. Some who were laid off to only have about 5,000 or 10,000 of 401K money. Is it too late to obtain an income or grow you savings when you've aged out of the job market? There's still hope and opportunity out there that can get you back into making an income and to grow your savings.

I have been moved to create this website because I have personally gone through the hardship of finding a decent job after I quit a 14 year job as a sign designer at 59 years of age. I left the job because my wife and I moved over 40 miles from that job to a new town. Nine months from the time when the Covid pandemic broke out in 2020. I had to wait 2 years for that pandemic to pass, and another year before I could get my SSI checks. But as we all know, SSI don't pay all the bills. I was kind of a burden to my wife who was already receiving her SSI that paid the mortgage and got the food we needed to get by. I joined temp agencies who reluctantly let my apply but I realized their main drive was to get young applicants to assign them to the warehouse factories that are north of the town we live in. That's the basis of how they really make the bulk of their money. Young slave workers for the northern factories. They could care less about older job seekers. But those were not the jobs for me anyway since they often require heavy lifting and long 10 to 12 hours work shifts. It was easy getting grocery store jobs in the deli and produce department but the starting pay was 12 to 13 an hour. They were not the kind of jobs I was going to stay long term at for sure.

Then I got an advice from an old senior friend. Go to HR at the court house and apply as a Transit Senior Driver. I've been loving the job ever since. The pay is very nice, good benefits, and I love the meaningful feeling of helping and assisting the elderly to go to their doctor appointment, or shopping, or their travel to the Senior Rec Center. So now that I have a decent job I can now put money into my money saving investment account with Charles Schwab.

Senior Work

If you're still abled body with decent health and can still work and you are just broke as a roach and you don't have any money at all, what you surely need is a job. A decent paying job. Some of the hidden senior citizen jobs that pays decently don't seem to be easily found as I've learned with Indeed, Zip Recruiter, or even through Temp Job services which as heavily geared toward the young. You really can't search for senior jobs through traditional job resource agencies like you did when you were young. You'd be surprised that city SENIOR RECREATION CENTER, SENIOR TRANSIT JOBS, SCHOOL SUBSTITUTE TEACHER JOBS (You often don't need to know the skills of a teacher), and SCHOOL BUS DRIVING JOBS will readily Hire You because these are jobs that a lot of Young people don't won't to do. Young ones who do have these jobs often don't stay with it. So these City County's actually favor hiring older people. Now you might feel you can work in a warehouse job at 60 years old but your chance of getting into a warehouse job is greater as an older worker if you have forklift driving skills. So you will need to get forklift training and get certified which you can learn in two to three weeks.
